Binance · BreachNorth Korea-linked hackers steal record $6.3 billion from Binance
Binance suffered the largest crypto theft on record: about $6.3 billion left the exchange's hot wallets across ten blockchains on October 29, most of it within roughly 20 minutes, according to TRM Labs. Binance says the entry point was a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop, infected through a fake job interview scam, which gave access to a service container to submit unauthorized withdrawals, with no leak of private keys; TRM Labs, Elliptic and Chainalysis attribute the attack with high confidence to North Korea's TraderTraitor. About $3 billion has been frozen by issuers and partners, withdrawals remain suspended, and Binance pledged to cover losses with SAFU and company funds while warning customers about scams.
